Vegan Date Squares- “White Flour-Free”
In a recent post, I talked about some of the “hazards” that go along with consuming a diet high in white flour products.
But, here’a the good news: there are so many simple and delicious treats you can make at home that are white flour-free! They taste better and they’re better for you. My family loves these!
This recipe uses dates as its base. Dates are rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals including iron, potassium, magnesium and B vitamins. They are naturally sweet, so they can either replace or allow you to reduce the added sugar in many recipes, and dates are definitely a much healthier alternative to refined sugar!
These treats also include healthy fat from coconut oil, so they make a great snack with almost 300 calories per square and 15 grams of fat. For my daughter who lives with Cystic Fibrosis, one square along with a protein shake made with 1 cup of coconut milk and a scoop of plant based protein gives her close to 500 calories. That’s a great balanced snack for her and for the rest of the family.
