Golden Milk (Tea)

You may have heard of that little golden spice called turmeric. That beautiful color comes with some amazing health benefits! So, what can turmeric do? Turmeric is rich in antioxidants which can protect our cells from oxidative damage. It can also soothe digestion and improve mood, But the number one superpower of turmeric is in its power to reduce inflammation in the body. While some inflammation is normal, especially in response to injury or invasion (as in viral or bacterial infections), inflammation that becomes chronic is the root cause of diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and diabetes.

We can all benefit from adding some turmeric to our daily routine. People with conditions like arthritis, irritable bowel or Cystic Fibrosis, where inflammation can exacerbate symptoms, need to pay extra attention to getting in more anti-inflammatory foods. Here is a delicious way to enjoy turmeric.

3/4 cup canned light coconut milk (canned light coconut milk makes the creamiest drink, but feel free to sub coconut milk from the carton)

3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk

2 tsp ghee (or coconut oil for dairy-free version)

1/2 tsp ground turmeric

1/4 tsp ground ginger

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

pinch of black pepper

1 tsp honey or maple syrup, or a few drops liquid stevia

Note: if you have doTERRA essential oils, you can make this drink with 1-2 drops Turmeric oil, 1 drop Ginger, 1 drop Black Pepper oil in place of the spices listed in the recipe. I like the ground turmeric for the color, but you can add a drop of Turmeric oil to the ground version in the recipe

Directions:

  1. Heat coconut milk and almond milk in saucepan.

  2. Add ghee or coconut oil, spices and sweetener and whisk to combine. Simmer about 5 minutes

  3. Pour into mug and enjoy immediately!
