Age in Reverse with Better Nutrition

We all know that when we improve our nutrition, we improve our health and reduce our risk of disease.  But did you know that the food you eat has the power to slow down, or even reverse, the signs of aging inside and out?

It’s true, the state of our skin is a reflection of what is going on inside our bodies, so making better food choices is going to improve your internal health and your largest organ, the skin, will reward you externally with a smooth, glowing appearance and fewer lines and wrinkles.

To slow down the aging process, experts recommend a plant-based diet.  But don’t worry- that doesn’t mean you have to become a vegetarian. A plant-baseddiet is one where plants make up the foundation, or the majority of what we eat.  We know that almost every animal on the planet intuitively consumes plants for better health, so we know that plants must be pretty amazing!

One of my favorite anti-aging foods is pomegranate seeds. These little miracle seeds are high in Vitamin C and powerful antioxidants that help preserve the collagen in the skin to slow the signs of aging.  Even better, pomegranate seeds protect all of our cells from damage and help reduce inflammation in the body, another win in our effort to slow the aging process.

Try adding a handful of pomegranate seeds to a salad or even to your morning oatmeal to take advantage of their powerful health benefits.

Here’s a recipe for my favorite pomegranate snack.

Pomegranate Yogurt Bark

Ingredients:

2 cups Coconut Yogurt (vanilla or plain, or Greek Yogurt)

10 drops liquid Stevia (if you are using plain yogurt)

½ cup pomegranate seeds

¼ cup dark chocolate chips (or vegan chocolate chips)

2 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut

Directions:

1.Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

2. In a small bowl, combine half of the pomegranate seeds and chocolate chips with yogurt

3.Pour mixture onto the lined baking sheet, making a ¼ inch thick square

4.Sprinkle with remaining pomegranate seeds, chocolate chips and coconut

5. Freeze for a minimum of 3 hours, then use a knife to break into random pieces

Store in an airtight container in the freezer.
